KING — North Surry and West Stokes battled to a 4-4 tie before the Wildcats pulled out the final doubles match for the win.

The Greyhounds kept pace with the Wildcats 3-3 in singles, but West Stokes took a doubles match on Court Two to go up 4-3.

At the same time, North’s Samuel Holder and Corbin Willard went down 6-7 on Court One, said Coach Drew Belton.

Samuel held serve to tie the set, then the next game stretched on and on before North broke the Wildcats to go up 8-7 before winning 9-7 to tie the team score.

North’s Cameron Shore and Austin York played well in three doubles, but Thomas Kiger and Ethan Elliott pulled out an 8-3 win.

Cameron played great in singles, and those two have nothing to feel badly about, the coach believed.

Every match, a coach just wants his team to give itself a chance to win, said Belton. The guys did that today against a squad that beat a good Surry Central team earlier in the week.

In singles play, Holder beat Andrew Holmes 6-2, 6-1. Willard beat Sam Elter 6-4, 6-3.

Shore was down 0-3 in the first set, then won nine of the next 10 or 11 games, said Belton. He took the first set 6-4 and had a good lead on the way to winning 6-4 in the second set.

Alex Jones lost to Jacob Covington 6-1, 6-2. Elijah Bryant fell to Frank Sells 6-1, 6-2. Mason Taylor lost to Ethan Elliott 6-1, 6-3.

North Surry travels to East Wilkes on Monday, then hosts East Surry on Wednesday.
