DOBSON — The Surry Community College Knights split a Region X doubleheader on Saturday against Brunswick Community College.
Surry (11-7) was scheduled to play a third game on Sunday, but it was canceled.
After dropping the opener 3-0, the Knights bounced back to take a 7-0 lead in Game 2 and held off a late run from the Dolphins to win 7-5 in seven innings.
Catcher Jamison Nagle (South Stokes HS) cleared the bases with an RBI double in the second inning as Surry built a 5-0 lead. Center fielder Robbie Harrison doubled, singled, scored two runs and had an RBI. Third baseman Keon Holt had two singles.
Chase Saunders (1-2) got the win for Surry. Shawn Singletary took the loss for Brunswick, which scored all five of its runs in the top of the seventh.
In Game 1, the score was 0-0 heading into the eighth inning when Brunswick scored three runs. Surry had 10 hits in the game and was led at the plate by designated hitter Tyler Stotler, who went 4-for-4. Shortstop Ashton Fleming and right fielder Connor Bodenhamer each had two base hits.
Stotler and Nagle, both freshmen, are hitting over .300 for the season. Nagle has a team-high eight doubles this season.
Zach Winkler (1-2) took the loss and Alex Ministeri got the win to improve his season record to 5-0.
Surry will host Jamestown Community College in a nonconference doubleheader on Thursday in Dobson. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Knights hit the road for a three-game Region X series at Lenoir Community College this weekend.
The Knights dropped out of the Division II polls after being ranked No. 17.
