PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry had the offense rolling in the first half against Forbush.
In the third quarter, the Cardinals showed just how good they can be on defense.
East led 53-29 at halftime and then held the Falcons to five points in the third quarter on the way to a 93-43 victory on Saturday in the Thanksgiving Invitational at East Surry High School.
Seth Brim led all scorers with 26 points, and Carson Long added 20 points and nine rebounds.
“Defensively I thought we did a better job in the third quarter,” East coach Jason Anderson said. “We tightened up on defense after halftime, which was something we talked about.”
Scott Meredith also hit double-figures with 16 points to go with four assists for the Cards, who went on a 24-2 run in the third quarter to blow the game wide open.
Brim had a big first half, and Long scored 10 points during the Cards’ big third-quarter surge. Hunter Chapman led the Falcons with nine points. Forbush only had 14 points the entire second half.
East looks very strong early — with blowout wins over Forbush and Elkin in the two-day tournament.
“I thought our guys really responded, and they did what they needed to do,” Anderson said. “It’s a good start. It’s a long season. We can’t be happy. The hard part for me is to keep them motivated. We are not going to have games like this every night. We’ll sit down and work on some other things.”
Anderson said he expects a tough challenge on Tuesday night at home when East (3-0) takes on cross-county rival Surry Central.
