Wet weather disrupted the regional tennis tournaments on Saturday.

Rain delayed the start of 2A matches for several hours at the Bingham Tennis Center in Lexington.

North Surry’s Sarah Glasco and Surry Central’s Marlee Wilmoth each lost in the semifinals.

Despite the losses, the two already have clinched a spot in the state 2A tournament next weekend.

In order to determine third and fourth seeding, the two players had to face each other for the fourth time this season.

Glasco went up 5-2 in the first set, but Wilmoth battled back, winning three straight games to tie it at 5-all.

Then tied at 6-6, Wilmoth pulled out the tiebreaker to win the first set.

In the second set, Glasco bounced back to win 6-1 and force a third set.

In the final frame, Glasco won 6-0 to capture the third seed. Wilmoth will be the fourth seed next weekend.

Look for a preview story of the state tournament in a later edition of The News once all the seeds are locked in.

The Lady Bears will have to wait until Monday to wrap up the 1A tennis regional.

Mount Airy has two doubles teams still alive in the 1A West Regional semifinals. With scattered rain falling off and on all day Saturday, the teams agreed to hold the semifinals and finals on Monday.

Choosing a neutral site, the matches will take place at 4 p.m. at West Stokes.
