Golden Eagles top Hounds 5-0 in soccer

Jose Avalos had a hat trick as Surry Central beat North Surry 5-0 in Monday’s soccer action.
The Golden Eagles scored three goals in the first half to take control, then used its depth to keep fresh bodies on the field in the second half.
Four times in the early minutes the Eagles had shots on goal. Two hit the posts and two were knocked away by North’s keeper.
Then midway through the half, Avalos centered the ball from the right corner. The keeper knocked the ball down, but Gusto Cristobal swooped in and finished off the rebound.
Then in the 33rd minute Fredy Cruz fed the ball to Avalos for a 2-0 lead.
Three minute later, the Eagles got a free kick from about 30 yards out. Rather than boom one toward the net, Francisco Rangel played the ball short to Reymundo Calderon who booted it in for a 3-0 margin.
In the second half, Avalos would get his second goal off a penalty kick, then he finished the hat trick in the 63rd minute off a pass from Arturo Lopez.
Central Coach Blake Roth said that once the game was in its late stages, he started thinking about another tough match the Eagles have on Wednesday against Forbush. He started rotating out his starters to give them a rest, while giving the younger players some needed game experience.
While the Eagles came out on top, Roth said he was disappointed overall with the play of his team.
North Surry not only got after the ball harder than Central, he said, but the Greyhounds imposed their style of play on the game and even got Central to play along.
The Eagles have to play their style of game and impose their will on the other team, he added.
While Central (11-3) goes to Forbush (9-3-1), the Hounds (3-7) travel to South Stokes (5-4-2) on Wednesday.
