The Lady Greyhounds aced their second win of the season against the Lady Wildcats by a 7-2 score on Thursday.
“It was a good win for us,” said Lady Hound’s Coach, Maggie Mckee about the conference victory.
With the win, the Hounds netted on the plus side in their conference record, moving it to 4-3.
After the singles finish with the Lady Hounds up 4-2, the Lady Wildcats needed to sweep all doubles for a victory.
Instead, the Lady Hounds turned on the focus and won in doubles play 8-3, 8-6, and 8-2 for the overall 7-2 score.
Mckee said, “Those doubles were really big for us; they played a lot better than the first time we played them and showed they are improving.”
Mckee said, in particular, the 8-2 doubles win by Lady Hounds, Bailey Atkins and Cassidy Willard was impressive at the number three doubles seed.
Earlier, at the number six battle in singles between Lady Hound Willard and Anna Brown a marathon tiebreaker erupted. The win eventually went to the Lady Wildcats in a (5-10) tiebreaker score.
Thursday’s match ended in a reverse at the number six and number three positions from the last time the teams met, said coaches, McKee and Wildcat’s Head Coach David Smith.
In the match, the Hounds lost after a tiebreaker at the sixth position that they had previously won against the Lady Wildcats.
Conversely, The Lady Hounds won at the number three spot that they had lost to the Lady Wildcats previously.
At the second seed, the ground stroke and consistency proved to be the difference on Thursday.
Smith said that the Wildcats number seven player, Abbey Westmoreland, filled in at the number two seed against the Hounds due to an injury.
Westmoreland took the victory with good ground strokes and serves, said Smith. Though the Wildcats lost to the Hounds for the second time this season, Smith said the Wildcats improved since their last meeting, Smith said he wanted Wildcat footwork to pick up.
In the last match at second seed, Lady Hound Rebecca Parsons won 7-5, 7-5 but could not hold on for the win on Thursday. Westmoreland won 6-2, 6-1 over Parsons.
Coach Mckee reported the official results; At the first seed, Sarah Glasco won 6-1, 6-0 over Abbey Emerson. At number two, Abbey Westmoreland won 6-2, 6-1 over Rebecca Parsons. At third seed, Hannah Southern won 6-3, 6-1 over Erin Kye and at fourth, Taylor Tickle won 6-3, 6-0 over Lauren Palmer. At fifth, Bailey Atkins won 6-4, 6-1 over Catherine Nachard. Finally at sixth, Anna Brown prevailed over Cassidy Willard 4-6, 6-0, (5-10).
