PILOT MOUNTAIN — Cards Head Coach Bill Hart led the Cards to a 5-0 win on Wednesday but emphasized the win as being secondary to the strength they drew from the memory of teammate Jacob Pettitt.

Pettitt died on Sunday from injuries he sustained in a car accident on Sept. 3.

Head Coach Bill Hart said, “Chrystal and Jason Pettitt, the parents of Jacob, came to the game and really inspired our kids and encouraged them to keep on going. Our kids drew strength from Jason and Chrystal and our boys really rallied around the memory of Jacob. I think the game was secondary to the healing process at East Surry High School, not only for the players, but the students.”

In the game’s opening, Brody Gentry scored on a shot within the first ten minute.

Souli Boutis scored the second after maneuvering the ball on a long drive upfield, and Andrew Zachman scored on a cross by Boutis.

The Cards dominated in ball possession during the game.

The Cards led at half-time 3-0 over Elkin.

Card Brayan Gomez scored the final two goals in the second half for the shutout win.
