South Stokes wins 2A golf; Surry Central, North Surry tie

PILOT MOUNTAIN — High school teams Forbush, South Stokes, North Surry, Surry Central and West Stokes met in a conference 2A golf match-up on Wednesday at Pilot Knob Park, and South Stokes emerged the winner.
South Stokes led with a score of 136, Forbush scored 169, and Surry Central and North Surry tied at third with 173.
For Forbush, Kelsey Kem shot 51, Ariel Montoya 61, Alexis Huffman 57, and Kimberly Granger 62.
For Surry Central, Autumn Senter shot a 49.
For North Surry, Emma Cassell shot 53, Rachel Hull 60, and Montanna Kuhlman, 60.
Kuhlman, a freshman, has only been golfing three weeks. She said she has developed a passion for the sport and was pleased with her score.
West Stokes, who hosted the match, brought Alivia Daniels who recorded a 58. West Stokes Coach Jeff Robertson said one is all it takes and was pleased with her performance.
For South Stokes, Megan Mabe scored 44, Nicole Rogers 45, Kelli Mounce 47, Jordan Myrick 53, Maggie Abbot 57.
Surry Central Head Coach Daniel Broughton said Senter’s game has really improved and continues to go in the right direction. Broughton said Senter dropped her average by 10 from last year.
North Surry Coach Daniel Johnson said his team continues to improve and looks for Emma Cassell to make the regionals. So far, she has a score of 59, 50 and 53. An average of 55 will qualify her for the regionals.
Cassell said she cut six strokes off her play from two weeks ago and it felt good, she said.
Now a junior, Cassell has reduced her stroke by 10, she said.
