DOBSON — Surry Central lost to Starmount in volleyball 3-0 Thursday.

Starmount, a perennial power, looks poised for another deep run in the 2A state playoffs.

Central Coach Carrie Hutchens said that the Lady Rams were a tough team, but she liked how her girls competed.

The Lady Eagles played better than they did in a loss to East Surry earlier in the week, but they still haven’t reached the potential that Hutchens sees.

Every team has weaknesses, and the Eagles made some decent runs on the Rams, she said. However, the Eagles also made some mistakes, and a good team will make opponents pay for those.

Kendra Johnson and Cassidy Joyner had good games, and the front line got some kills against a stout front.

“It’s still early in the season, and we trying to find our groove,” she said. The girls are starting to come together now.

On Tuesday the Eagles host West Forsyth, then a rematch with the Lady Cards comes in Pilot Mountain on Wednesday.
