PILOT MOUNTAIN — Robert “Bob” Walter Thomas, age 59, of Pilot Mountain, went to be with the Lord, whom he loved serving, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Thomas was born May 25, 1954 in Forsyth County to the late Clem & Mary Lois Gordon Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a graduate of East Surry High School & UNC Charlotte. He was employed from 1978-1995 at the Bank of Pilot Mountain which later merged with Planters Bank & then Centura. He retired on disability in 2007 as a bivocational pastor for 15 years at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. He was also owner / real estate broker, Pilot View Realty. Mr. Thomas also served as Pilot Mountain Town Commissioner for 9 years. Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Marilyn Danley Thomas, of 32 years. They have two children, Robert Tyler Thomas & wife Courtney of Wilmington, NC; Anna Rebecca Thomas Norris & husband, Richie of Pilot Mountain; two precious grandchildren, Carr Allen Norris of Pilot Mountain & Ada Caroline Thomas of Wilmington, NC; brother, Gordon Martin Thomas & wife Melodie of Arlington, VA; and nieces, Elizabeth Thomas Marquardt of Highland Park, Illinois and Mary Oliver “Mollie” Thomas of Arlington, VA. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain conducted by Rev. Gene Sherrill, Rev. Gerald Jones & Rev. Milton Sewell with interment to follow at the Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. Mr. Thomas will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International, PO Box 481, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041. The love and special care from caregivers, Ashley, Dawn, Stephanie, Lisa, Sylvia, Sherry, Beth, Christine and Gay over the past five and a half years have been a true gift from God.
