CONOVER — Donald “Don” Ray Wagoner, age 78, of Conover passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem after an illness of many years. Born July 1, 1936 in Paris, KY, he was the son of the late Emery Clay and Anne Hawkins Wagoner. Don was educated at Bourbon county Schools in Paris, KY and was a graduate of the University of Arkansas School of Retail. He was in retail management for more than 50 years having worked for W. T. Grant Company, TG&Y Stores and Walmart for whom he opened several stores in this area. He retired from Walmart in Statesville. Don was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Marvin and Thelma Dawson, Sisters-in-law, Nina Fleming and Lillian Dawson, Brothers-in-law, Junior Dawson, Roland Goins, Jr., and Doug Fleming and a Granddaughter, Jennifer Hixon. He is survived by: Wife of 43 years: Jo Dawson Wagoner of the home 5 Sons: Rodney Hall and wife Jeanette and Eddy Hall, both of Conover, Donny Wagoner and wife Patty of Trinity, NC, John Wagoner of Salisbury, NC and Tommy Wagoner and wife Regina of Mooresville 2 Brothers: Bill Wagoner and wife Barbara of Cynthiana, KY, Ralph Wagoner and wife Teresa of Lexington, KY Sister-in-law: Ruby Goins 5 Grandchildren: Ashley Royal and husband Shawn, Amanda Hall, Foster Wagoner, Gray Wagoner, Kaylee O’Shea, Michelle Thompson and husband Troy 6 Great-Grandchildren: Alyssa, Addylynn, Jace, Ethan Royal, Katherine and Hannah Dixon Several Nieces and Nephews The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover with Dr. Ed Yount officiating. Burial will follow at Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00- 10:45 a.m. at the church, prior to the service.
