• Two women from Pilot Mountain were charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods after an incident at Walmart Sunday, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports. They were identified as Penny Michelle Childress, 35, of 146 Toyland Trail, and Leslie Ann McMillian, 29, of 350 Community Building Drive. Childress allegedly concealed Castrol Oil and left the store without paying, but no property was specified in relation to McMillian. Both women are scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Sept. 25.


• Police were advised Tuesday of a case involving financial card transaction fraud, in which a known individual used the stolen debit card of Marty Clifford Pike of Locklear Street to withdraw an undisclosed sum of cash at an ATM at Surrey Bank and Trust on West Pine Street. No charges had been filed at last report.


• An attempted break-in of a motor vehicle was discovered Monday at the residence of Harold Duane Thompson on Korner Street, involving his 2000 Dodge Ram pickup. Someone removed a window vent and pried the driver’s-side door, causing damage put at $100.


• Razors were stolen Sunday at Walgreens on Rockford Street by an unknown suspect who took the items from the store without paying. No loss figure was given.


• Joseph Bradley Hastings, 32, of 109 Lamar Trail, was served Sunday with a warrant on a charge of possession of stolen goods, for which no details were listed. Hastings is free on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on Sept. 25.


• Juan Carlos Landeros, 22, of 134 Wilson Lane, was arrested Saturday on an order for arrest for failing to pay fines and also was charged with resisting, obstructing or delaying a public officer. Landeros was encountered by police as a passenger in a vehicle stopped on U.S. 52 near Merita Street for an expired registration plate and when asked for identification, allegedly supplied the name and date of birth of another person. He was jailed under a $485 secured bond and slated for a Sept. 15 court appearance.


• Violations of inhaling toxic vapors and possession of toxic vapors were issued Friday against Angela Willard Pruett, 41, of 1999 Grassy Creek Road, Pinnacle, who was a passenger in a vehicle stopped on North Main Street near Taylor Street for no license plate. An open air sniff by a drug dog led to synthetic marijuana and a smoking pipe being found in Pruett’s purse, and she admitted to inhaling substances including incense and synthetic marijuana, police records show. Pruett is slated for a Sept. 24 appearance in District Court.


• A 24-pack of Budweiser beer valued at $17 was stolen by a unknown male suspect last Thursday from Sheetz on Rockford Street.


• Kmart was the scene of a theft on Aug. 20, which involved an unknown suspect taking a Kenmore air-conditioner and a 27-gallon tote, valued altogether at $320.


• Two women from Carroll County, Va., were cited for larceny at Walmart on Aug. 20, Maria Margarita Hernandez, 23, of 1733 Epworth Church Road, Cana, and Kecia Dawn Hunter, 24, of Hillsville. Other details regarding the alleged theft were not listed, with both women scheduled to be in court on Sept. 24.


• Amy Hope Shumate, 26, of 1460 E. Pine St., was arrested on Aug. 19 on violations including three counts of larceny; possession of stolen goods; attempted larceny; resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer; and possession of drug paraphernalia. No details were listed regarding those offenses, for which Shumate was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond. Her District Court date is Sept. 23.
