• Two Pinnacle residents turned themselves in Wednesday on assault charges that had been filed that day in Mount Airy, according to city police department reports. Penny Renee Wall, 50, of 1271 Pinnacle Hotel Road, is accused of assault with a deadly weapon and assault by pointing a gun, while Andy Ray Ayers, 40, of the same address, is charged with assault and battery. The complainant against both individuals is Chad Frank Arnder of another address on Pinnacle Hotel Road. Wall and Ayers were released on written promises to appear in Surry District Court on Aug. 22.

• Jason Edward Parker, 39, of 1920 N. Main St., was arrested and charged with resisting a public officer Thursday after he was encountered by police during a domestic call. Parker was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond and is to be in District Court on Sept. 9.

• Cyle Lawrence Jessup, 21, of 338 Maple Hollow Road, was arrested Wednesday on charges of possession of toxic vapors, inhaling toxic vapors and driving while impaired. Police allegedly found Jessup passed out on West Pine Street at Independence Boulevard while in the driver’s seat of a 1991 Ford Ranger pickup, and a glass smoking device and incense in the driver door. Jessup was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond and slated for a Sept. 15 court appearance.

• A car title was discovered missing Wednesday from a 1998 Geo Metro owned by Carol Johnson Smith of Mayberry Avenue. The theft occurred while the unsecured vehicle was at Smith’s home.

• Johnny Wayne Rigney, 40, of 177 Carter Road, was taken into custody Tuesday on Pine Creek Trail stemming from violations of displaying a fictitious tag and driving while license revoked and an order for arrest for failing to pay fines which had been issued on May 29. Rigney was jailed under a $767 secured bond, with July 30 his court date.

• Marlboro and Camel cigarettes were stolen Tuesday from an unsecured 1992 Ford Mustang owned by James Wesley Nichols Jr., a Potts Road resident. The crime occurred in the Walmart parking lot.

• A warrant for arrest on an offense of damage to real property was served Monday on Thomas Emitt Howard, 50, of 1010 N. South St. It had been filed on July 7, with no details listed. Howard is free on a written promise to appear in District Court on Sept. 23.
