DOBSON — A public hearing on a rezoning request highlights a brief agenda when the Dobson board of commissioners meets for its regular monthly meeting Thursday night.
The meeting is set to get under way at 6 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room in Dobson Town Hall.
Following an update on the town’s finances presented by Finance Officer Laura Hill, the board will consider a rezoning request filed by property owner Harry Folger.
“(Folger) purchased a trailer park in town on Main Street across from the high school and Surry Community College,” said Town Manager Josh Smith. “It’s set back off the road a little bit and Mr. Folger also purchased two parcels with road frontage on Main Street in front of the park.”
Smith said Folger’s intention is to combine the tracts and place one additional mobile home on the site.
“In order to do that he must have one of the parcels rezoned,” Smith said.
At present, the property in question is zoned RS, or residential suburban, and Folger is requesting to have it zoned RMH, or residential manufactured home.
“There’s a house on the property on Main Street, and he wants to keep the house there but combine the tracts to add the additional mobile home,” Smith said.
According to the town manager, the Dobson Planning Board has given the nod to the request.
“The only question raised was whether he was going to tear down the house and put a mobile home on the road, but that’s not his intention,” he said. “This is a well-maintained mobile home park and the town has not had any issues with it. The rezoning would not impact other residents or change the appearance of the neighborhood.”
The only other matter of business for the board is a request to proclaim March as American Red Cross Month.
