ARARAT, Va. — A charity golf tournament is planned Sunday to benefit Dan River Park in Ararat.
The event will be held at the Primland resort in Patrick County, according to Janet Epperson, president of the Dan River Park Association.
Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. for the golf tournament, which will have a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.
Included in the $150 registration fee are 18 holes of golf with a cart, two beverage cart tickets and an awards program.
Prizes include a car for a hole in one on No. 12 at Primland, contributed by Patterson Toyota in Mount Airy.
Also, prizes will be awarded for the first-, second- and third-place teams as well as smaller prizes.
“We still have openings for teams and individuals,” added Epperson, the organizer of a project to develop a trail linking Dan River Park with Blue Ridge Elementary School. “It should be a fun day for everyone.”
A first phase of the trail effort was financed with federal transportation enhancement funds directed through the Virginia Department of Transportation, according to recent media reports. Local matching funds were provided from in-kind sources such as property easements and labor.
Governmental and other funding is now being sought for a second phase of the trail project, for which $105,000 is needed.
The park association presently has about $9,000 on hand, and is seeking to raise money through Sunday’s golf tournament as well as a “Run for the Hills” event.
