ELKIN — Osber Valle scored three goals for the hat trick as Surry Central defeated Elkin 6-2 in nonconference soccer on Tuesday night.
Jose Avalos scored twice and had an assist and Ramiro Gonzalez had another goal for the Golden Eagles (2-0-3). Julio Sanchez had two assists and Arturo Lopez had one assist.
“Elkin always had a huge amount of numbers behind the ball. They weren’t playing a very high line, so our fast guys, Avalos, Ramiro, Josh Gibson, couldn’t utilize their speed,” Central coach Blake Roth said. “We had to pass the ball around. Osber is a center-midfielder. He was doing good at distributing. He would find a seam, it would close, they would send it back out to him at the 18-yard line and he would get a good shot.”
Central outshot Elkin 20-3, but the Buckin’ Elks would score on two of those three shots. Roth said his team made a couple of bad decisions on the two goals. The Eagles led 4-1 at half and 5-1 until the final three minutes of the match.
Roth was able to pull five JV players up for the match, and substitute eight guys against Elkin.
“We’ve had four tough games. Three ended in a tie, and one (win) by one goal,” Roth said.
Central travels to East Surry on Thursday, and then goes to Raleigh on Saturday for the Labor Day Coaches Kickoff. The Eagles beat the Cards 1-0 last week. East was scheduled to host North Surry on Tuesday night, but that match was canceled.
