The Surry Community College Kiwanis Aktion Club recently spearheaded a drive to collect 10,000 pencils to be presented to Mount Airy City School teachers for the new school year. They raised money to purchase pencils as well as collected from various businesses. Pencils were given out on Friday, August 25, to all teachers following orientation.

Affixed to the pencil cups was a card that read “There will always be a pencil here for your students.” The Aktion Club will periodically replenish the pencil supply to assure no child will be without a pencil. SCC Aktion Club has 21 members with Diane Barnett serving as Kiwanis Advisor.
