Northern Hospital of Surry County held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on April 27= during National Volunteer Week. With 120 volunteers and guests in attendance, the group enjoyed dinner, fellowship, and fun at The Banquet Hall at Cody Creek in Dobson. ‘

The volunteers at Northern Hospital served a combined 22,688 service hours over the past year.

Several awards were presented to volunteers at the banquet. Six awards were given to honor certain volunteers who went above and beyond during the 2016-17 year. Shirley Crabb was awarded Most Hours, having served 1,845 hours over the past year. Pauletta Crotts, who has been a volunteer since 2005, was presented with the Lifetime Membership Award. John Lankford was presented the Extra Mile Award.

The Above and Beyond Award went to Shirley Tillotson. Wayne Burton received the Outstanding Volunteer Peer Award (which was chosen by fellow volunteers and hospital staff members) and the Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Goldie Sparger.
