ELIZABETH CITY — The Surry Knights swept a baseball series from College of the Albemarle over the weekend.
Surry won its fifth straight to improve to 5-2 on the season. The Knights won the two games 7-3 and 12-3.
In the first game, Surry pounded the Dolphins for 13 hits, led by third baseman Keon Holt, who went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Connor Bodenhamer was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, Tre’ Young was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI, and Jamison Nagle went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs. Courtney Crews had a solo home run for Surry.
Surry scored two runs in the third inning, added one in the fourth and another in the fifth. The Dolphins scored three in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut it to 4-3. The Knights added one run in the seventh, eighth and ninth inning.
Chase Saunders (1-1) earned the victory on the hill for the Knights.
In the second game, Surry finished with 14 hits and had a seven-run fourth inning in the win.
Ashton Fleming was 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs and an RBI, and Nagle (South Stokes grad) was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Young went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and four RBIs. Eli Ledford was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs and Robbie Harrison was 2-for-3 with a double.
Zack Winkler picked up the pitching win.
Surry was scheduled to play a doubleheader against Lenoir-Rhyne University’s JV team on Tuesday. On Saturday, the Knights host Southeastern Community College-Whiteville for a doubleheader beginning at noon. Surry plays the same team on Sunday at noon.
