To the Editor,

The editorial in the Mount Airy News Tuesday July 23, 2013 (NC voter ID, other changes un-necessary) should be an eye opener to all citizens of North Carolina and the USA as a whole. Both parties, Democrat and Republican, are interested only in their respective agendas. They do not have the state of NC its citizens or the USA at the best interest. They only have party and the party leader’s interest at heart. When I went to register to vote in Surry County in 1987, I had to provide proof of citizenship via birth certificate, NC Drivers License, or other to prove I was indeed a citizen and a resident of Surry County, North Carolina. I was issued a voter ID that stated the party affiliation, the precinct I was to cast my vote, the registrar signature, the board of elections chairman signature, a registrant ID number, the registration date, the issue date, and my birth date with instructions concerning the things I would need to do if I moved, in order for me to cast my vote.

Every time I vote, the registrars at the precinct ask my name, address, and party affiliation. They then check the registered voter rosters for the county of Surry and that particular precinct. Only then am I given a chit that I take to a precinct judge for them to set the voting machine so I can cast my vote.

If this is the normal for all counties in North Carolina, I can see no reason to spend a MILLION dollars of taxpayer dollars to provide free photo ID’s to citizens of North Carolina. If I die, the local election board will purge my name, or they should, from the voter roster. Anyone then trying to vote should and would be denied!

It is not conceivable that a candidate or party could pay hundreds or thousands of people not registered to cast a vote for those that do not vote to the point of determining the outcome. (It is my belief that all USA citizens should cast a vote).

What the concerned citizens of Surry County and the USA should be doing is to create another party. A party that is not indebted to Big Corporations, Wall Street, other countries, special interests, lobbyist’s etc. A party of “The People by The People.”

Those now sending money to PACS, parties, etc., need to come up with candidates from common men and women that have an interest in their children and grandchildren. Most politicians that are millionaires and billionaires cannot fathom how most USA citizens live.
