North Surry swept past Wilkes Central in nonconference volleyball on Monday night, winning 25-21, 25-17, 25-12.
With the victory, the Greyhounds improved to 3-2 on the season. North was coming off a split in a tri-match against Starmount and Reagan on Saturday.
North and Starmount, both traditional 2A powers, are young this season.
“We are still trying to find some consistency,” coach Shane Slate said. “We’ve got some inexperience and we’ve had some injuries. We’ve had to tweak our lineups every match, but that’s part of it.”
Senior Taylor Hill had an injury earlier this season, and freshman Mikaela Johnson did not play against Wilkes Central Monday because of an injury.
Slate said he went with three different lineups in a tight first game against the Eagles (0-4). North made some adjustments and rolled in the final two games.
Freshman Martha Holt was 18 of 18 serving with three aces. Senior Morgan Hawks was 8 of 8 serving with 12 assists. Senior Jordan Badgett was 14 of 16 serving with two aces to go with eight digs. Hill finished with 12 kills, three blocks and eight digs, and junior Amber Simmons had nine kills.
Freshman Dixie Fulk recorded 22 assists, sophomore Maggie Hawks had 11 digs and Senior Aubrey Hall finished with nine digs.
The Greyhounds host cross-town rival Mount Airy on Thursday night. The Lady Bears (2-2) host Walkertown Tuesday.
