HAYS — The Granite Bears invoked the slaughter rule, blanking North Wilkes 9-0 in soccer Wednesday.

Mount Airy scored six goals in the first half and three in the second to end the road match early.

Coach Will Hurley said his team did a great job of passing throughout the night, something he wants to see them continue in future matches.

Levi France had a great game, said Hurley. He had two assists and scored once himself. Gentry Williamson also passed out two assists with one goal. Chandler Snyder had three assists.

Two players had hat tricks; Jeremy Chappell and Matthew Dodd had three goals each.

The sophomore Dodd had a “beautiful” game, said Hurley, as several young players got quality minutes due to heavy subbing for the heat.

Miguel Venegas and Robert Brown had one assist each. Keeper Scott Kunkel had eight stops for the shutout.

The Bears improved to 3-0-2 and host rival North Surry tonight.

The Greyhounds also are having a good season, starting 4-1. Results of Wednesday’s match with Walkertown were not available at press time.
