Granite Bears top Forbush, North Wilkes in trimatch

The Granite Bears improved to 4-0 in the young wrestling season with wins over North Wilkes and Forbush Thursday night.
Mount Airy won 32 matches last year and is looking to take the league title in the revamped Northwest Conference. The Bears beat the Vikings 57-21 and the Falcons 54-27.
In the first match, the Bears started off with North Wilkes at the 195 class as Justin Wheeler accepted a forfeit.
Jesse Parker, 220 pounds, lost a minor decision (4-9) to cut the lead to 6-3, but heavyweight Cody Smith got those three points back with a decision. Smith nearly had his man pinned at one point, but settled for the 8-1 decision.
Jacob Hogue (106) blitzed his opponent for an easy win, getting the fall in 38 seconds. That put Mount Airy up 15-3.
After the Bears gave up forfeits at 113 and 120, the match was tied at 15-all. However, the Bears dominated the rest of the way, outscoring the Vikings 42-6.
Last season, the Bears lost both matches to North Wilkes, 50-24 and 39-33. This time, the Bears prevailed 57-21.
Colton McMillian bumped up from 120 to 126 and got a pin in 3:41. Jackson Blizzard earned another second-period pin at 132.
The Vikings got a pin at 138 over Chandler Snyder, but Kenyon Smith answered at 145 (1:04) and Triston Mabry pinned at 152 in 3:34.
Cameron Pack (160) didn’t score in the first period and was down 0-2. However, he controlled the next two periods and finally got an elusive pin with just four seconds left.
Landon Mumford took a forfeit at 170, then Austin Branch finished the match with a pin at 182 in 22 seconds.
Forbush beat North Wilkes, then took on Mount Airy.
Jesse Parker received a forfeit at heavyweight.
At 106, Hogue pinned in 1:14. At 113 the team gave up a forfeit.
At 120, McMillian got a pin in 1:29. At 126, the Bears gave up a forfeit.
At 132, Snyder was pinned late in the first period. At 138, Blizzard won in 2:40.
At 145, Kenyon Smith got a pin in 15 seconds. At 152, Mabry lost a minor decision 9-4 to Isaac McMillian.
At 160, Pack pinned his opponent in 1:59. At 170 Mumford won in just 26 seconds.
At 182, Branch made a pin in 2:37. At 195 J.J. Wheeler made a pin in 1:04.
At 220, Cody Smith was pinned to finish the match.
