The Surry Senior Center’s Well-Seasoned Players will present the original play “Ghost Light,” on stage at the L.H. Jones Auditorium May 9 through May 11, with proceeds going to benefit the Senior Center.
The play is a comedy-drama in two acts that revolves around an old-time radio station, WEDU, that is about to be sold and renovated into a restaurant. The woman who is purchasing the facility is taken on a voyage down memory lane with a former radio station employee. As memories unfold, the audience becomes a part of the history of the small-town radio station through a glimpse at its programming through the years.
“Ghost Light” features multiple segments, including musical performances, a county fair report, rent-a-critter, a ghost story, an advice segment, a farm report, profiles, the school lunch menu, storytelling, commercials, and more.
The cast includes Brack Llewellyn, Chris Ingalls, Terri Ingalls, Will Whitaker, Stephen Pottorff, Vicky Town, Dick Olchak, Su Olchak, Misty Hagwood, Jake Mayer, Gail Mayer, Donna Bradley, and Joe Dellinger.
The play was written by local residents and Well-Seasoned Players members Terri Ingalls, Donn Key, Su Olchak, and Vicky Town.
The L.H. Jones Auditorium is located at the Jones Family Resource Center, 215 Jones School road. The play will be held on May 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. and May 11 at 2 p.m. A special performance will take place on May 8, meant for those who attend senior centers, although anyone is welcome, and admission is free for the May 8 performance. For all other performances, admission is $5 per person and all proceeds will benefit the Surry County Senior Center. Refreshments from 15 Beans will be available for purchase.
