The Surry County Sheriff’s Office needs help in identifying suspects in an attempted breaking and entering.

According to Sheriff Graham Atkinson, the incident occurred Monday at a residence on Ararat Road.

“The victim was home at the time the two suspects attempted to enter the back door,” Atkinson said.

The homeowner then used personal electronics to snap photographs of the suspects as they attempted to break into the home, according to the sheriff.

“She had the presence of mind to take pictures of the men while they were trying to break into her home,” he said. “She was there on the other side of the door taking their picture while they were trying to break in.”

After taking several photographs of the suspects, they realized the homeowner was taking their photos and left the premises.

“They left the scene in a grey, possibly 1980s-model vehicle,” Atkinson said. “The victim was unsure if the vehicle was an SUV or a pickup truck with a camper shell.”

The only other description of the vehicle is that the tail gate was down and an upper window was raised.

“(The homeowner) was certain that the vehicle had faded gray paint and not primer,” Atkinson said. “I hope someone out there knows who these people are so we can identify them.”

Anyone with information regarding their identities should call the sheriff’s office at 401-8900.
