Two Surry County teen-agers reported missing have been located in Georgia, authorities announced today.
Kora Nicole Ledezma, 13, of Poplar Street in Mount Airy, and Antonio Manuel Hernandez, 16, of Pipers Gap Road, were found safe and sound, according to Lt. David Hamlin of the Surry County Sheriff’s Office. The two have been described as boyfriend and girlfriend.
The girl was last seen at her residence around 11 p.m., Monday, while family members’ last sighting of Hernandez was as he boarded the school bus at his home last Thursday.
Search efforts for the pair by Mount Airy police and the Surry Sheriff’s Office included entering their names in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database and also checking out possible locations where they might have headed.
The missing teens subsequently were located about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday by authorities in Richmond County, Ga., in the area of Augusta, at a residence.
“Numerous leads kept coming in, which just led in that direction,” Mount Airy Police Chief Dale Watson said today.
The two were found at the home of a relative of one of the youths.
“I was glad that it came to the resolution that it did,” Watson said of the pair being located intact.
Arrangements were made to have the two youths returned to their families.
