Police are still trying to find a motive in a Wednesday night stabbing that left a woman in the hospital and her brother facing felony charges.
According to Mount Airy Police Chief Dale Watson, police were notified of the incident shortly before 10:30, with the report coming in as a stabbing.
When they arrived on the scene, officers discovered Crystal Dianne Hall, 36, of Galloway Street, suffering from a stab wound to her chest.
She was treated at the scene and was subsequently transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for additional treatment.
Officers arrested her brother, Terry Lee Bramlett, 39, on charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Bramlett has a listed address of 119 Galloway Street.
He is being held in the Surry County Jail without benefit of bond.
Watson said investigators are still trying to piece together what led to the stabbing.
“At this point, we don’t know what led to the actual assault,” he said Thursday morning. “That is still under investigation, and at this point I don’t believe the victim is being very cooperative with investigators.”
Hall is still being treated for her injuries, and Watson said she is listed in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
He said the incident is being treated as a domestic assault due to the close relationship between the alleged perpetrator and the victim.
“It’s very unfortunate any time something like this happens, but when it happens between family members it is even worse,” he said.
