Cross Creek Country Club will once again be transformed into a mini Monte Carlo this weekend as the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History holds its third annual Casino Royale night.
The event, a major fundraiser for the museum, is set to get under way at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
According to museum Director Matt Edwards, the casino night has become a popular event for the museum, and a major source of operating capital.
“This year is the third time we’ve held a casino night, and they’ve been very well-received,” he said. “They’ve turned into our biggest fundraiser of the year.”
Edwards said that while the museum hosts several smaller fundraising events throughout the year, the casino night “is crucial.”
“The money we raise through this event allows us to continue our operations and enables us to offer the great, quality programming that we’ve been able to offer to the community,” he said.
Tickets for the event will include dinner provided by Cross Creek, cocktails and an evening of casino-style gaming.
And Edwards said don’t worry if you don’t know the rules for games like craps or roulette.
“We’re working with a group out of Winston Salem who bring in professionally-trained dealers and croupiers,” he said. “This isn’t like we have volunteers running the tables, these are professionals.”
Gaming for the evening will feature craps, roulette and blackjack, but the chances to win big aren’t limited to the tables.
“We’re also going to offer a silent auction during the event as well as an optional draw-down, with the winner receiving a $6,000 cash prize,” Edwards said.
The silent auction will feature “all manner of stuff,” Edwards said.
“We are going to have everything from vacation packages to iPads up for auction,” he said. “There will be a lot of consumer electronics available as well as several vacation packages.”
One of the favorite items, a meal cooked in the winner’s home by Chef Chris Wishart of Trio Restaurant, also will be up for bid.
“For the winner, Chris will prepare a meal at your home for your family and a small group of friends,” Edwards said. “That’s always been one of our most well-received items during the auction.”
Attire for this year’s fundraiser is “black tie optional.”
“The idea is that with this whole Monte Carlo, casino theme, we wanted to jazz it up a bit, but we recognize that not everyone is comfortable in a tuxedo, so we’re hoping that people wear their Sunday best,” Edwards said. “But we don’t want people to feel like they can’t participate due to the dress code.”
Tickets for the event only, including dinner and drinks, are $65 per person. But anyone who purchases a $100 draw-down ticket will receive a $25 discount on the event ticket, Edwards said.
