Surry County Schools bid farewell to 29 employees


The retirees honored by Surry County Schools.

The Surry County School System recently held its annual retirement dinner was held at the Barn at Blueberry Hill in Elkin.

A western themed dinner and program was planned for the retirees. The Dance Works Studio Junior Company Cloggers performed to “Cricket on a Line.”

Dena Cave, SCS 2015 Teacher of the Year, and SCS 2015 Principal of the Year Sandra Scott, entertained the retirees with a presentation about boots and bandanas.

Mamie Sutphin, school board member, read the recognitions for each retiree.

“Tonight, we are saying farewell to 29 quality employees with over 536 years of experience in the Surry County School System. It is going to be difficult to say farewell to such a talented and dedicated group of people. On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to thank you for your years of service.”

As she read, the Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Travis Reeves presented the retirees with gifts. Gifts included a certificate, a lifetime pass to SCS athletic events, and a personalized clock.

Reeves gave words of thanks and praise in his closing remarks.
