PINNACLE — A 2-year-old girl is dead after her father accidentally backed over her with a truck Sunday evening while trying to take two other children to the hospital.
Emergency Services Director John Shelton said the incident began when a 6-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl were involved in a go-cart wreck at the home on Stony Ridge Road in Pinnacle.
The accident seriously injured the 6-year-old and the father was trying to take the children to the hospital, Shelton said.
“The father of the 2-year-old was trying to get them in the truck and transport them to the hospital and during the process he thought the 2-year-old was in front of the vehicle but she was behind it,” he said. “He backed over her.”
EMS personnel, called to the scene at 8:27 p.m., began resuscitation efforts at the scene, and continued while the toddler was transported to Northern Hospital, but they weren’t able to revive the child.
“She was pronounced dead at Northern Hospital at 9:25 p.m.,” Shelton said.
The 6-year-old was transported by helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.
The 8-year-old was treated and released at Northern Hospital.
Shelton said no names would be released.
Sheriff Graham Atkinson said his office investigated the incident and no charges will be filed.
