Two people were taken to the hospital following an accident at Bonnie Lou’s Flea Market late Saturday morning.

According to county Emergency Services Director John Shelton, the accident occurred when a patron at the flea market, located on Carter Street, was attempting to back into a booth and “accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake.”

Police say Firov Kesaria was operating a 2001 Toyota Avalon when he allegedly accidentally hit the gas, striking a table at the flea market.

“He then put the vehicle in reverse, backed up and struck a 1997 Ford Ranger, which was knocked forward and pinned two people between the cars,” said Mount Airy Police Lieutenant Tommy Reeves.

Police say Billy and Patricia Jenkins were both transported to an area hospital with what they call “minor injuries.”

The accident happened shortly after 11 a.m., Shelton said.

No charges have been filed, and on additional information was immediately available.
