Jimmy John’s sandwich shop, located at 1996 Rockford Street, is now open and ready for business.
Mount Airy officials first announced the deli-style sandwich shop would be coming to Mount Airy in December, along with a couple of other businesses at the location which formerly housed Long John Silver’s. When that store closed, around a dozen jobs were lost, but the opening of Jimmy John’s promises to more than offset those losses.
Owner Kevin Hoeing said he plans to have about 20 people working there when fully staffed. He said making the decision to locate in Mount Airy was an easy one.
“This will be our first store in Mount Airy and our team is excited to serve fresh, fast and tasty sandwiches to a new set of customers in the area,” he said. “We have had several loyal customers ask if we would ever come to Mount Airy and I fell in love with the area so I knew I had to make this happen.”
The chain was founded by Jimmy John Liautaud in 1983 and is headquartered in Champaign, Illinois.
Since its beginning in a garage in Charleston, Illinois, the company has expanded to more than 2,500 outlets in 46 states. Jimmy John’s has opened about 200 locations annually over the past three years, most of which are franchise-owned.
Jimmy Johns has built its reputation on what it considers fast sandwich delivery.
“The new Jimmy John’s in Mount Airy will deliver sandwiches right to your door if you are inside the delivery area, and offers convenient catering for any occasion,” Hoeing said. “Customers can stop by the new location, call the store at 336-786-6666, or order online at online.jimmyjohns.com.”
Anyone interested in applying for one of the positions at the story can stop by the location, which is open daily 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and fill out an application.
