DOBSON — What do Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and 10 area youth have in common?

After a week spent at Surry Community College’s annual Art Camp, the latter 10 are extraordinary artists just like the former three.

At least that’s the word from Surry Community College officials.

The college held art camp on the Dobson campus July 18-21, “welcoming some of Surry and Yadkin counties’ most creative,” the school said.

With a new project every day, participants were able to try their hands at canvas painting, molding clay, paper mâché, watercolor techniques and sketching two-dimensional figures.

Those who participated in the camp were K.J. Haynie, Abigail Jennings and Cassidy Mills, all of Pilot Mountain; Colin Hiatt, Karli Willard and Morgan Hiatt, all of Mount Airy; Alyssa Kirby of Lowgap; Chloe Snow of Dobson; Caleigh Witherspoon of Elkin; and Lisbeidy Sanchez of Boonville.

On the final day of camp, participants treated their family and friends to an art show displaying all their work from throughout the week.
