A pastor with local ties will soon be honored for 61 years of work in the ministry.
The congregation of Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Reidsville, along with the family of Rev. Grover Holder, will hold a celebration July 15 honoring the pastor’s 40 years at the church, and 61 years overall as a baptist minster.
Rev. Holder is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ora Lee Holder of Mount Airy.
In addition to being feted for his time in the church, Rev. Holder will celebrate his 88th birthday on July 18. He was married to the late Alberta Cockerham Holder for 62 years and they have three children, Deborah Lawson of Boonville, Tammy Holder of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Tony Holder of Reidsville.
Highland Park Baptist Church of Mount Airy is his home church and he accepted Christ at the age of 10.. He accepted the call to the ministry while attending East Side Baptist church in Mount Airy in 1956. He graduated from Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, then graduated from the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1963. He has been the pastor of seven churches in North Carolina and Virginia.
The celebration will be held at Mount Hermon Baptist Church, 1611 Ashley Loop, Reidsville, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 15. The church is inviting friends, family and loved ones “to come and celebrate in honoring Rev. Holder.”
