Surry County Sheriff’s Office investigating homicide near Mount Airy

BANNERTOWN — Officials are investigating an apparent homicide in the Mount Airy area.

According to a statement from the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday deputies responded to 151 Blue Ridge Lane and found the body of Sandra Jayne Sechrist.

“Upon securing the scene, officers determined that the death was an apparent homicide,” the statement reads.

She was 52 years old at the time of her death.

According to Surry County tax records, Sechrist owned the property at which her body was found.

Sheriff Graham Atkinson said, “Due to the nature of the investigation, we cannot release any additional information at this time.”

The sheriff said that more details regarding the crime will eventually be made available for the public, but he is unable to elaborate on the press release during an active investigation.

The press release indicates the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation was called on to assist in the investigation into Sechrist’s death.
