GREENSBORO — A Mount Airy tourism official has made a top-40 list of business leaders in this region as selected by a Greensboro-based publication.
Jessica Roberts, the director of marketing and tourism for Mount Airy Tourism and the Tourism Partnership of Surry County, is among the latest honorees of the annual Triad’s 40 Leaders Under Forty program of the Triad Business Journal.
It recognizes younger persons in the region — from 21 to 40 — who are making a difference in its communities through their business expertise.
Roberts, 36, guides efforts in Mount Airy and Surry County which have helped tourism spending in the county grow from $66 million to $117 million during her 12-year tenure, and has been a major proponent of Yadkin Valley wineries.
Along with her leadership in the tourism industry on a local level, Roberts is involved on a statewide basis, including serving on the N.C. Travel and Tourism Board and the Triad Film Commission, and also is associated with the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Roberts holds a bachelor’s degree in recreation, tourism and hospitality management from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Her professional credentials also include becoming a certified travel marketing professional through the Southeast Tourism Society.
Roberts and others chosen for the Triad’s 40 Leaders Under Forty list were honored at an awards ceremony and reception on Feb. 16 at UNC-Greensboro’s Elliott University Center.
