Pilot event an alternative for singles

Valentine’s Day is a holiday celebrated by couples and often overlooked by those not in a relationship.

Ideally, one participates in a date night with their significant other. Whether it would involve a fancy dinner possibly accompanied by a movie or a couple will enjoy romantic night at home.

Since Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, the holiday can be easily avoided by those who are single.

However, for the singles crowd looking for an outing on Valentine’s day, The Living Room Coffeehouse and Winebar in downtown Pilot Mountain will be hosting a speed dating and swing dancing event.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. and will last until 10 p.m.

The entry fee is $10. Possibly finding your soul mate, priceless — or at least that’s the claim on the calender of events sent by Jenny Lowe, manager at Mount Airy Visitors Center.

The event is in partnership with No Punching Bag, a group which promotes Domestic Violence awareness and recovery through arts.

Niki Farrington, manager of The Livingroom Coffeehouse and Winebar says, ‘We expect a great turnout.”

This will be the first year the business has held the event, according to Farrington.

Typically speed dating gives two individuals a time to talk with one another and when the set time is up, the two individuals move on to spark up a new conversation with a different acquaintance.

Farrington, said she was unsure of the amount of time that would be set for the night.

In addition to the speed dating, the venue will be hosting swinging dancing in the ballroom.

“Couples are welcome to come dance,” says Farrington.

“We will have our regular menu items as well as wine and beer specials,” added Farrington.

“Hopefully we have a good turn out and a great night.”
