A Mount Airy man is being held in the Surry County Jail for allegedly robbing a convenience store and threatening an employee.

Darrell Lamont Sturdivant, 49, of 240 Starlite Road, No. 110, is being held under a $10,000 secured bond, a jail spokesman said Monday afternoon. Sturdivant has been charged with felony larceny.

The charge stems from an incident at the Breeze Thru convenience store on West Lebanon Street last Tuesday.

A man entered the business, which is in the Westwood Shopping Center vicinity, and threatened to harm the employee.

He then stole $120 from a cash register.

The incident is considered a forcible or common law robbery, but no weapons were displayed, according to police records.

After the robbery call, an investigation led to Sturdivant being implicated as the suspect. That included the Breeze Thru employee identifying him as the individual who robbed the store.

Sturdivant was located at his residence at Starlite Motel by Officer T.G. Riddle and booked on the robbery violation.

Arrest records also state that $50 of the $120 taken was recovered.

Sturdivant is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Jan. 18.
