One or more traffic accidents caused the northbound lanes of I-77 to be closed Wednesday.
Wednesday afternoon at about 3:45 p.m. at least one accident at mile marker 96 on I-77, just north of the Dobson exit, occurred.
Radio transmissions indicated a tractor-trailer was involved, and northbound traffic was diverted from the interstate at exit 93.
Another media outlet reported there were, in fact, three separate traffic accidents which involved a total of four tractor-trailers. The latter two crashes were a result of the first crash, in which a vehicle hydroplaned and hit a guardrail.
Reports from witnesses on Facebook and various other sources also stated one of the tractor-trailers was carrying chemicals, which spilled as a result of the incident.
Surry County officials could not be reached for comment, and as of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night, public safety officials were still engaged at the scene of the incident.
