Sammons recognized by association

Macon Sammons Jr., of Mount Airy, has been awarded a life membership in the North Carolina City and County Management Association. The award was presented during the president’s luncheon at the recent association winter conference in Durham.

Since 1969, Sammons has served in various city and county administrative positions, including city planner in Lynchburg, Virginia; county administrator in Goochland, Alleghany, Franklin and Fluvanna counties in Virginia; city manager in Manassas, Virginia and St. Marys, Georgia; as well as assistant city manager of Deerfield Beach, Florida.

Sammons was Surry County Manager from January 2004 to August 2008. More recently he served as town administrator of East Spencer, where he now serves as grants and projects manager.
