Police reports


• An attempted break-in at a local business caused $1,000 in damage last week, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports. The crime occurred Wednesday at Carolina Expediters on Fancy Gap Road. In an effort to gain entry, a handle was beaten off a steel door, with the $1,000 damage figure applying to the door and lock.

• Herbert Charles Kipp, 34, of 1610 Twin Oaks Road, Elkin, was arrested Thursday on a first-degree trespassing violation, after being located in a room at Blu-Vue Welcome Lodge on Fancy Gap Road, where he had been banned by the lodge manager on Dec. 2 in the presence of three city police officers. Kipp was held in the Surry County Jail under a $500 secured bond and slated for a Jan. 25 appearance in District Court.

• A shoplifting incident occurred Wednesday at Main Oak Emporium on City Hall Street, where an unknown suspect concealed Birkenstock men’s sandals valued at $135 and attempted to leave the business. The property was recovered.

• Property valued at $170 was stolen on Dec. 7 from the vehicle of victim Argote Villegas Jtrancito of Gonzalez Way, Dobson, while the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was in the parking lot at Tractor Supply on Rockford Street. The items taken were a green jacket and a tool kit.

• Dean Allen Bowman, 31, of 219 W. Lebanon St., was served with a criminal summons for a charge of assault with a deadly weapon on Dec. 4, which had been issued that day with Richard Anderson of Rockford Road, Dobson, as the complainant. Bowman is to be in Surry District Court on Jan. 8.

• Cathy Collins Covey, 41, of Walnut Cove, was cited for substitution of price on Dec. 4 in connection with an incident at Walmart. Covey is facing a Jan. 27 appearance in District Court.

• A larceny was reported at the Willow Street residence of Kenneth Arnold Hinton on Dec. 3, when a known individual is said to have stolen Hinton’s camouflage-colored wallet and then used his debit card. In addition to it, the loss included Walmart and Lowe’s hardware credit cards, a Social Security card and other cards.
