The Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce has announced another way for citizens to participate in a candidate forum it will host Tuesday night in the auditorium of Mount Airy High School.
Not only will questions posed to city office-seekers during the 7 p.m. event be chosen at random through written submissions collected from the audience, questions also are being accepted in advance.
Anyone who would like to submit one before Tuesday’s forum can email it to Randy Collins, the chamber’s president and CEO, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Questions also can be left at the chamber visitors center at 200 N. Main St. It is open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The 2015 municipal races in Mount Airy include nine candidates vying for four city council positions, with the election to be held on Nov. 3.
Steve Yokeley is running for mayor against David Rowe, and three commissioner races are involved.
Incumbent At-Large Commissioner Jim Armbrister is being challenged by Jerry Taylor, while Dean Brown, incumbent North Ward councilman, is trying to hold on to his seat against N.A. Barnes.
Commissioner Shirley Brinkley of the South Ward is facing two write-in candidates, Bill Clark and Joe Reid.
