UPDATE: North Surry, Gentry schools no longer under lock down


North Surry High School and Gentry Middle School are no longer under lock down, according to law enforcement officials

Sonia Dickerson, director of communications for Surry County Schools, reported at 9:40 a.m. she was in North Surry at the time of the lock down, due to a suspicious man walking on N.C. 89. Surry County Sheriff’s Office dispatched officers to both school and are on campus.

The call came into Surry County Communications at 9:17 a.m., when a concerned motorist noticed the suspect walking and believed he was carrying a firearm.

Graham Atkinson, Surry County sheriff, said, “There was no real threat.” Officers were able to locate the man walking N.C. 89, and he did not have a weapon, and was no threat to the schools.
