Surry Center’s annual Celebrating Agriculture event will be held Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m. This event is held every year on the second Saturday of September to celebrate and raise awareness for agriculture in the community. This will be the 10-year anniversary for the event.

Admission is free and fun is available for all ages, according to Nicole Curry with the hosting Surry County Cooperative Extension office.

Local organizations selling food items include Surry County Cattlemen Association, Dobson Early Birds Extension Community Association Club and North Surry Future Farmers of America, among others.

The local North Carolina State Extension Master Gardeners will be having their annual plant sale on Saturday as well, and providing tips for farmers, gardeners and homeowners. The plant sale raises money to support the program with activities such as school gardens, educational classes and plant health clinics.

A small petting farm will be available for visitors to see and pet animals found on a farm, including goats, calves, pigs and horses.

A 4-H tent will be set up for crafts, pumpkin painting and cow milking.

Antique and classic farm machinery will be displayed to showcase some of the history of agriculture. Local bands will be performing, including Mayberry Squares performing square dancing.

A Hay Maze/Ride will be provided for attendees, at this booth a raffle drawing will be held for a child’s John Deere Electric Loader donated by Mt. Airy Toy Land. The drawing is at 7 p.m. and ticketholders must be present to win.
