Hicks awarded Teacher of the Year

Victoria Hicks was awarded Teacher of the year at Clyde A. Erwin Middle School, Buncombe County, Asheville.


After graduating in 2006 from North Surry High School as a student from White Plains, Victoria Hicks has finished her fifth year of teaching at the Clyde A. Erwin Middle School, Buncombe County in Asheville. This year she was presented with the award of Teacher of the Year after starting teaching in 2010.

Hicks graduated in 2010 from UNC at Asheville with a bachelor of arts in literature and social studies. Prior to entering university, she was awarded the NC Teaching Fellows Scholarship. At present, she is teaching eighth grade, is a volleyball coach, serves as department head of English Literature and is a mentor for beginning teachers.

This year she was called upon by UNCA to speak at the May 2015 Graduating Student Teachers Celebration as well as the UNC Basketball Coach Roy Williams — Baldwin Teachers Apartment Complex being held in Asheville where she hopes to continue her teaching profession.

She is the daughter of Cecil and Lynn Hicks of White Plains.
