DOBSON — In written statement released by the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Graham Atkinson announced that three men were apprehended following a robbery on Tarheel Lane on Tuesday.
According to the statement, two men armed with a handgun entered a home, where they found the resident with her two children. According to authorities the resident attempted to wield her own handgun. Authorities say a struggle ensued in which a shot was fired. According to the press release nobody was injured in the incident.
The statement said the two suspects fled the scene of the crime into the woods near the home after stealing a few items. Later, detectives located a witness who had seen the suspects running from the woods and getting into a red Ford Escort. The witness was able to get the license plate number of the vehicle, and relayed it to detectives.
Shortly thereafter detectives arrested Corey Lee Christian Cain, 21, of 145 Sisters Lane in Mount Airy, Justin Leo Moreno, 21, of 104 Blueridge Street in Sparta and Mario Resendez Sanford, 23, of 129 Lower Park Lane in Mount Airy.
All three men are charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny. However, Moreno and Sanford are also charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Cain was released from custody on a written promise to appear at his court date. Moreno is being held at the Alleghany County Detention Center without bond, and Sanford is being held in Carroll County, Virginia, under $78,000 secured bond.
Cain and Moreno are scheduled to have court appearances in the Superior Court on July 8. Sanford’s first court appearance regarding Tuesday’s alleged crimes is on July 17.
