The Surry County 4-H Achievement program was held recently at the Shelton-Badgett North Carolina Center for Viticulture and Enology of Surry Community College. Members of 4-H clubs, community clubs and 4-H volunteers were recognized for work done in 2016. County Council officers and 4-H members presented the program on 4-H opportunities.
Whitney Collins, extension agent for 4-H youth development, inducted 4-H County Council officers for the 2017-2018 year. Inducted into their positions were Rebecca Cahall, president; Laken Williams, vice president; Alyssa Johnson, secretary; Sydney Tucker, senior reporter; Mallory Estrada, junior reporter; and Katherine Issacs, pledge leader.
Awards were presented to 4-H members for excellence in 4-H project record work. Receiving blue ribbon awards were Rebecca Cahall, Laken Williams, Katherine Issacs, and Christy Shelton. Red ribbon award winners were Bryanna Boyles, Michael Boyles, and Abby Roberts. Cloverbud participant award recipients were Aidan Issacs and Matthew Issacs. There was one purple ribbon award winner, Rebecca Cahall, for her 4-H Portfolio on Electricity.
4-H Achievement Plan achievers were Aidan and Matthew Issacs in the Cloverbud category, Bryanna Boyles, Michael Boyles, Katherine Issacs, Christy Shelton, and Laken Williams in the Green Clover category, and Rebecca Cahall in the bronze clover category.
Clubs members were recognized for outstanding achievements in 2016. This included members of the Beulah 4-H Club, Cloverbud 4-H Club, and the Surry Saddles 4-H Club.
Volunteer 4-H leaders were thanked for the work they had done in their community club and in other leadership positions. Volunteers recognized were Gail Shelton, Bonnie Cahall, Rhonda Glidewell, Trish Roberts, Stephanie Wurm, Sasha Sprinkle, and Brittany Turney.
Youth volunteers recognized were Rebecca Cahall, Sydney Tuckers, and Laken Williams. The evening was concluded with games and crafts for 4-H’ers and their families.
