MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Lucille Whitlock Smith of Mount Airy was called home on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at her residence. She was born Jan. 26, 1916, in Surry County to the late Cora Jarvis Whitlock and Jesse B. Whitlock. She grew up and attended school in Surry County. Lucille moved to New York and lived there for 40 years and married Tim Smith. She returned home and resided in Mount Airy for the last 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tim Smith; only son, Charles Jeter; one sister, Esther Kiser; brother-in-law, Jim Kiser; one brother, James Whitlock; sister-in-law, Vella Marie Whitlock; and brother-in-law, Clifton Wright. She leaves to mourn, one sister, Mildred Wright of New York; and many nieces and nephews from New York, Philadelphia, Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Mount Airy. The wake will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Howell Funeral Chapel, 940 W. Lebanon St., Mount Airy, NC 27030. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church, 1536 W. Devon Drive, Mount Airy, NC 27030, conducted by the Rev. Allen Hurst will interment to follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. Mrs. Smith will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service for final viewing.
