Every Saturday Night, Dobson Rescue Squad Inc. hosts BINGO with cash prizes. The BINGO is located at the Dobson Rescue Squad at Hwy 601 and Rockford Road. Early Birds start at 5 p.m. Regular Pack begins at 7 p.m. The Late Bingo depends on the number of players. The Regular Pack is nine games for $20. The Players Game is $5. A Child Pack, for children 13 and under, is $5. Concessions are sold on site by Dobson Rescue. For more information call 336-374-4100. Come join this ongoing fundraiser for a wonderful volunteer organization who saves lifes.

Stewarts Creek Ruritan Club in Lambsburg, Va., will raffle off 20 silver dollars in groups of five as a kickoff to a series of fundraising activities. Tickets are $1 and drawings will be held every third week. Money raised will be used for operating expenses and community projects. For more information, contact Martin Shatley at 276-755-0158.

The Lambsburg Ruritan Club hosts bingo every Friday night. Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. Concessions are available.


Jam sessions every Friday at the Lambsburg Community Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. with music from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is free, and concessions are available.

Registration is now open for the Yadkin Valley Senior Games, which will take place May 1 through May 31. A wide range of athletic and artistic events are available for residents ages 55 and better. Early bird registration ($8) ends March 20, and final registration ($12) will run March 25 to April 4. Participants can register at the Armfield Civic and Recreation Center, the East Bend Senior Center, Elkin Recreation Center, Reeves Community Center, Surry County Parks and Recreation office, Surry County Senior Center, Yadkin County Parks and Recreation, Yadkin County Senior Center, or the Yadkin Valley Senior Center. The weekly Rook Tournaments being held at the Lambsburg Community Center in Lambsburg, Va. on Saturday nights at 7 p.m. and will run through April and stop next Winter.

Jamming in Jamsburg in Lambsburg, Va., is held every Friday night from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. at the Community Center. Come join for the best picking and grinning in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Blue grass, old time, gospel and other types of music will be playing. Situated at the foot of the Sugar Loaf Mountain and surrounded by the mountains makes a beauiful backdrop for the jam. There's plenty of space indoors and outdoors. There are concessions with the clean entertainment for the whole family. All musicians and music lovers are invited to come play, dance or just listen and enjoy.

Today

There will be a mandatory training session at 6:30 p.m. for participants, between the ages of 5 and 19, who want to garden for the 4-H Mini Gardens “Vertical Gardening.” Training will begin in the Extension Center in Dobson where the rules and general contest information will be covered. The other half to the training will take place a local garden for some hands-on activities and tips. Directions to this site will be provided. Each participant will recieve garden materials to start their own garden. Register by Friday, May 2. The fee will be $8 for the contest for each participant. The fee covers the garden and workshop materials, awards and garden participant entry to Summer Awards Night on August 21. To register and for more information call 336-401-8025.

Wednesday

2008 Strawberry Field Day will be held at the Central Crops Research Station located at 13223 US Business 70 West in Clayton. Registration will be at 9:30 a.m. and the program will start at 10 a.m. and will go until noon. The program will highlight new varieties, disease updates, mite management and tunnels. Thursday

The Surry County BeeKeepers Association will be having an event at 7 p.m. at the Inspiration Center in Mount Airy. Come experience the wonder of the BEE world. Learn how they live, work, enhance the balance of nature and how they need our help.

Saturday

Come to a guided hike and gourmet lunch at Chateau Morrisette from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Learn first hand about the local history, haunts, mysteries and wildflowers while you explore a moderated trail in the Blue Ridge. You will be picked up and returned to the winery for a three course gourmet lunch. It's $45 per person and reservations required, seats are limited.

There will be a Mother's Day Luncheon at Salem United Methodist Church at noon. Special music will be played by Jeanette Robertson. Flowers will be provided by each lady present. All proceeds go to the Building Project. Tickets available in advance only for $10. The deadline for reservations is May 8th. Announcing weekly go-cart and all-sports summer camps at Mayberry Shazzam, for children, ages 8-13. Sunday

Show your mother everlasting love with a tribute lunch from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Chateau Morrisette. Reservatons are recommended. The winery will also be open during these hours and tours with tastings are scheduled at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

May 12

The Surry Co. N.C. Genealogical Assn. will meet at 7 p.m. in the Teaching Auditorium at Surry Community College in Dobson. The speaker will be Joy Brown who will speaking on The Gann Family Surname DNA Study. Joy has been interested in genealogy for two decades and has been administrator of the Gann Surname DNA Study since it began in 2001. Joy has written two books, one devoted to outlining several hundred years of Gann genealogy and the other a local history about eastern Stokes County and the lives of her grandparents. May 13

The Seniors from Reeves Community Center will be going on their Senior Trip to the Piedmont Farmers Market, the Reynolda Gardens and the Reynolda House. The bus will be leaving Roses parking lot at 8 a.m. and they will stop for lunch at the K&W. The bus will return back to Mount Airy around 5:30 p.m. The cost is $30. This will cover transportation and admission. Lunch will be up to you. Sign up and pay by May 5th. This is event is filling up fast so reserve your spot as soon as possible. May 14

There will be a Landscape Professional Field Day with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. Sessions will being at 9 a.m. It will be .5 hour of pesticide recertification credit. Free hot dog lunch will be provided at noon. NCNLA and OSHA trainning begins at 1 p.m. For more information call 919-816-9119.

May 16

LifeLine Pregnancy Help Center, a non-profit organization staffed primarily by volunteers, will be having its annual Walk for Life fundraiser at Fisher River Park in Dobson. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and the walk starts at 6 p.m. There will be good Christian fellowship and a free meal will be served after the walk. The gospel singing group Southern Soul Gospel will be performing at this year's walk. Please come out and help support our centers in Mount Airy and Elkin. LifeLine is helping to promote the sanctity of life by assisting women and their families through and after a crisis pregnancy, helping and supporting women going through Post Abortion Stress and educating our young people in the principles of abstinence until marriage. The 18th Annual Martinsville Bead, Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show will be May 16-18 at the National Guard Armory, 315 Commonwealth Blvd. in Martinsville, Va., on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is free and there will be plenty of parking. There will be door prizes. Jewelry makers, goldsmiths and silversmiths from all over the U.S. will be there. There will be a dealer from Russia with crafts and stones. Hourly door prizes including a gold ring with a precious stone will be given as a grand prize. This event is sponsored by the National Guard Family Support Group. May 17

Millennium Charter Academy's First Ever Pride Ride Poker Run and Family Fun Day will start at noon and run until 5 p.m. There will be a drawing for a Harley FXDC DYNA Super Glide Custom. There will be hourly drawings, games for the kids, food from Pizza Hut, Big Bubba's BBQ, East Coast Wings, MCA's world famous Hot Dogs, Chips, Drinks, Cotton Candy, Candy Apples, popcorn and more! The poker run registration will start at 9 a.m. with the cost of $10 a rider and a complimentary breakfast for riders.

May 22

An Entrepreneurial Adventure, Dawn, ower of Creative Designs, shares her enthusiasm for selecting, arranging and working with flowers and people. This even will take place at the Inspiration Center in Mount Airy at 7 p.m.

May 24

Cinema Morrisette presents “Some Like It Hot.” There will be a movie show on the lawn of Chateau Morrisette. Flamboyant Chicago and glitzy Miami Beach in 1929. Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon all star in this movie. A ukulele-playing Marilyn meets two musicians on the run from the mob who join her all-girl troupe and don make-up and dresses to hide their identity. Admission is $5 per person. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. The grill will be open selling sandwiches, popcorn, snacks, beverages and wine. Bring your own blanket or seat. Picnics, coolers or outside food and beverages are not permitted.

May 25

Chateau Morrisette is having a Spring Winemarkers' Dinner. A selection of rural recipes from different regions of the world will be complemented by their award winning wines. Guests for the Winemakers' dinner will experience a diverse culinary journey of hearty dishes. Their neighbors at Foggy Ridge Cider will present serious cider and food pairings from the Normandy region of France. Reservations must be made by phone; pre-payment is required. Five course dinner and wine is $95 per person. This event starts at 7 p.m.

May 26

The restaurant at Chateau Morrisette will be serving lunch from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Winery and gift shop will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and tours will be held at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

May 29

The Inspiration Center of Mount Airy is having Dorthy Haymore, the great-granddaughter of Eng Bunker, talk about “The Life of the Original Siamese Twins: Eng and Chang Bunker.” This event will start at 7 p.m.
