Pastor shares love and music

Roger Easter, a member of the Gospel trio the Easter Brothers, wants to pass the joy and peace he and his family receive from their musical endeavors on to the children of Mount Airy.
To try and do just that, The Easter Brothers will be offering a free opportunity for local children to have access to musical instruments and the instruction on how to play them with the Youth Ministry Praise team workshops. Held at Miracle Waters Worship Center where Easter is pastor, the group hopes to give kids an activity they can take part in to get them interested in church.
“We have a nice facility and what we wanted to do is get the kids involved in the church world and give them something to do,” Easter said. “We are going to try to put an instrument in each hand and we are going to be teaching them how to play them and put the groups together.”
Easter said the “praise teams,” as he called them, will be split up according to age and will include a wide variety of instruments suited for ages 6 and up, including guitars, basses, drums, percussion and vocals. He said the project is designed for all ages, including teenagers and all faiths.
“We are interdenominational and this is something that will fit any child and hopefully it will help them and guide them into something they will get involved with,” Easter said. “We have always been in music and we would just like to share our talents. It's going to be a good opportunity for them and they will learn a lot about music and what they can do with it and where they can go with it.”
The Youth Ministry Praise team workshops will be held each Thursday at 7 p.m. at Miracle Waters, with this Thursday, May 8, being the opening night. Each session is expected to last around two hours and refreshments will be provided free of charge following each meeting. Easter said the meetings will last as long as there is interest from the community.
“I feel like it is going to be a good thing,” Easter said. “What we are trying to do is get the music to come forward out of the children where they will have a hobby that they can do or carry with them the rest of their life.”
He said he feels it is important to keep young people interested in church by offering them outlets other than just going to church.
“A clean life is a boring life for young people unless they have something to fall back on like this,” he said. “I have always had somebody to cling to. If I live right and do the best of my ability I can always turn to the spiritual world to help me through this life and that is what I want to share. If the kids can understand that and they can cling to the music, the music can bring peace to these children and give them something interesting and fun.”
Miracle Waters Worship Center is located off McBride Road on Triple R Drive. To register for the Praise Teams, contact Roger Easter at 429-9827 before Thursday, May 8.
